CMM Manufacturer Acquires CMM Service Provider

Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) manufacturer AIMS Metrology has announced the acquisition of the assets of Measurement Specialties Inc. (MSI). AIMS and MSI are both located in Dayton, Ohio in USA. MSI calibrate, certify and program CMMs, with a specialization in Sheffield machines, while also providing both retrofit and repair services.

In 2017, AIMS purchased CMI Technologies to expand control quality and delivery timeframes for components it produces for its Revolution Series 5-axis CMMs. The latest acquisition of MSI will expand AIMS’ service footprint.

“MSI has more than 100 years of combined experience in the measurement and inspection industry,” says AIMS Vice President Mark Gearding. “Adding that tribal knowledge to our team allows us to ramp up customer support for our Revolution Series CMMs as well as Sheffield machines and other brands. It also allows us to add employees with high-value skill sets. Since the pandemic, we’ve seen an uptick in our retrofit and upgrade business.”

AIMS plans to cross-train its service engineers to enhance support capabilities. The CMM OEM will also be able to increase its’ capabilities for the development and application of custom part programs.

AIMS designs and produces coordinate measuring machines integrated with 5-axis measurement technology for accurate, flexible three-dimensional inspection of in-process and post process parts. The Revolution Series 5-axis LM and HB CMMs are engineered for the shop floor, the lab and automated applications in smart factory settings. AIMS expanded its CMM line in 2020 with the 5-axis multisensor Summit 10.10.10 developed for high volume, large parts inspection. AIMS CMMs utilize Renishaw technology including probe heads, touch probes, scanning probes, incremental encoder scale systems, change racks, styli, controls, and Modus measuring software.
